McLaughlin Planetarium

planetarium

This was taken inside Toronto's McLaughlin Planetarium, which was closed to the public in 1995 and is now a storage facility for the Royal Ontario Museum. This VR was featured on Torontoist in February with a companion article and generated a lot of discussion.

Yonge / Dundas : Toronto Life Square

toronto life square

This jumble of buildings and large backlit ads was recently named Toronto Life Square. Much discussion over the ugliness / beauty of this square took place on the comment pages of torontoist.

Four Seasons Opera Centre

Ballet

This magnificent new venue was opened in Toronto last year and is the home of the Canadian Opera Company and occasionally hosts the National Ballet of Canada. This scene is at a dress rehearsal of the ballet 'West Side Story'.

Nuit Blanche - Secret Subway : Toronto

subway

This was a sound installation by Kristen Roos at the 2007 Nuit Blanche festival. It took place in the Lower Bay subway station - an unused station at an abandoned subway line. From the Nuit Blanche guide..." Lower Bay Station, Toronto's ghost station, is used as a vessel to contain sounds that are within and below the threshold of human hearing - infrasound and tactile sound - where sound is felt rather than heard. Low frequencies created by cars and subways are contributors to the cacophony of infrasonic noise that exists deep below the rumbling of the city. These tactile sounds have also been associated with paranormal activity and ghost sightings."

Distillery District, Toronto

distillery district

This renovated industrial area has become a popular attraction for Toronto residents and tourists alike. Despite its popularity, it was oddly devoid of humanity when I photographed it in September of 2007. Here's what it would look like if you decided to buy the entire complex and keep it for yourself.
